Sobre o evento
The International Day of Stuttering is celebrated on October 22nd .
The date, established in 1998, aims to show the difficulties, traumas and fears that people who stutter face daily when trying to communicate with others.
Lectures and meetings are some of the initiatives carried out on the International Day of Stuttering.
It is estimated that there are about 100,000 stutterers in Portugal, and this speech problem affects men more than women.
Treatment for StutteringStuttering can be treated with specialized help from speech therapists.
The best treatment for stuttering is actually talking. The person who stutters must face the fears he feels when he shows his stutter.
Confidence and self-esteem are essential to be able to assume the difficulty when speaking, it is essential that those who listen collaborate with the person who stutters, in order to encourage them to express themselves. However, complete sentences should be avoided when the stutterer is talking.
Stuttering in ChildhoodStuttering in childhood is common because the child wants to articulate several words at the same time and is very eager to speak. Hence, childhood stuttering is temporary and should be dealt with in a calm and subtle way by the family.
