St. Luke the Evangelist was born in Antioch, Syria. He was the author of the Gospel of St. Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, bringing with his writings a detailed perspective on the mystery of the life, death and resurrection of Christ, who came to the world to save man and console the poor and the suffering .
Lucas was a doctor and painter born into a pagan family who was converted by St. Paul and who accompanied Jesus' disciples. São Paulo dubbed him a "well-loved doctor".
A faithful companion of Paulo, Lucas followed Paulo to his martyrdom, having died at the age of 84, near Boeotia, Greece. He would have been the first iconographer, painted the Virgin Mary, São Paulo and São Pedro.
He is the patron saint of painters, doctors and surgeons.
